  • Cover key concepts of a subject with a focus on developing skills necessary to success in secondary school and in daily life
  • Locally developed courses work towards preparing students for either direct entry to the workplace, or some apprenticeship training, following graduation

Applied

  • Credit course
  • Available in grades 9 and 10
  • Cover the essential concepts of a subject
  • Knowledge and skills will be developed through both theory and practical
  • The focus will be on practical applications
  • Familiar, real-life situations will be used to illustrate ideas, and students will be given more opportunities to experience hands-on applications of the concepts being studeied

Academic

  • Credit courses
  • Available in Grades 9 and 10
  • Cover the essential concepts of a subject and explore related materials as well
  • Although knowledge and skills in the subject will be developed through both theory and practical applications, the emphasis will be on the theory and abstract thinking as a basis for future learning and problem solving.
